'bottled' by ka-lai chan

in certain cities, supermarkets are encouraging patrons to return their recyclable PET bottles by offering them a rebate.
tapping into this incentive and the hassle of having to carry a large quantity of empty bottles, netherlands-based designer ka-lai chan
has come up with 'bottled', a carrier which makes this task a lot easier and more efficient.

the flat rubber-like disk has a ten openings whereby one can easily slip the nozzles of the empty bottles through the holes.
the lightweight design has a built-in handle making it user-friendly to carry around, encouraging green behavior.

Just a couple of question pops in my head.
How many bottles do you need to carry on average ?
And.... why are all the bottles in the pictures empty??
Andrew   02.14.12
In Germany we usually carry empty bottles back to the supermarket to recycle them. You get 0,25 € per bottle from the supermarket per bottle.

Wait, isn\'t the world trying to get rid of 6-pack rings, or atleast replace them with versions that rapidly biodegrade?
Jarf   02.15.12
maybe just use a shopping bag and use it to replace a new one from the shop !

I would smash the empty bottles and carry them on an used shopping bag instead of buying a new stuff only for this.

it is a good idea....; but apply to une or two or tree bottltes, ande the "handle" is very flexible and cause injurious in the hand; the handle coulde be more hard.-
thanking you.-

this is in fact a Half-ideia... looks a good ideia at the first time... but i think the point now it's to reduce wast, do not buy at all plastic bottles, and do not produce more stuff to pollute...
so, our actitude as designers should be only to change the way of thinking and act... don't buy plastic bottles, and this is it!!

It is interesting and stylish, but more practic is shopping bag made from fabric. And when I go for shopping I can put bootles into that shopping bag.

In Dakar, Senegal where a great deal of bottled water is consumed by the Senegalese, not just the visitors, an old man walked my street twice a week collecting small, medium, and large, 10 litre, bottles. The small ones went into a cloth bag (very worn) inside a sack which held the mediums and the large were tied with string in a chain-like arrangement that when pulled together fanned out like flower petals on either side of him. He would have been carrying about 50 bottles at any one time, using only ingenuity and very basic bio-degradable materials in order to do so.

This would be far too heavy to carry if all the bottles were full. Besides...a plastic contraption to carry a bunch of plastic bottles. Shouldn't we be designing more objects without plastic judging by it's proven track record of polluting?
