french designer philippe starck in collaboration with french car brand peugeot has developed a bike for the
city of bordeaux, france's bike sharing program. considered a cross between a bicycle and a scooter,
the design is set to promote and continue encouraging citizens to chose this mode of transportation within the city,
which has seen the number of cyclists triple in the last 15 years following the implementation of a initiatives
such as limited car traffic and developing the tramway.

the new two-wheelers are set for production as part of the mu by peugeot program.

'this idea for a new means of locomotion sprang from the analysis of much feedback from the citizens of bordeaux,
diverse opinions, constructive and intelligent ideas and the specificities of bordeaux. this revolutionary solution seems
to be the inventive and appropriate response to questions being asked regarding pedestrian areas.
' - philippe starck

Funny! It's not a peugeot representative with PS on the picture but the Bordeaux's mayor!

we have seen and updated the information.
it just takes a little while to refresh.
thank you.

yellow tyres?
they'll look shabby after the first day...
and the construction looks tortured, although the foot platform is a nice idea.
Quelava   02.20.12
Reminds me of Marc Newson's effort for Biomega using the mechanically inefficient shaft drive, except this time the 'designer' bike is hampered by its 25kilo mass. As to the foot platform being a nice idea, shouldn't they be on the pedals?
Meija   02.20.12
I find it funny that if I place a human figure on top of the bike, you can notice that the pedals are too far back, because being almost under the seat will create a incorrect posture for pedaling, all of this is caused by the only innovative thing on this bike: the feet platform.

This in school would called a "bad design" and "incorrect ergonomics", but, since itīs from stark, most people will go "oooooh, so fresh and innovative", yea right... (donīt worry, Iīm not anti-stark, iīm more anti-bad-design that passes as good design because of a famous name behind it...).

And now talking practically, how many times do you take your feet of the pedals? Almost never, the feet would go to the platform if the bike had an engine, so you rest your feet, like this itīs only used when you are going down hill, when you donīt need to pedal.

Cute, but has more problems then solutions, like many jurys say in design competitions, itīs just different for the sake of being different, it doesnīt solve any problems.
What?   02.20.12
está para atras!!!! buhhhhhhh!!
Mana   02.20.12
the pedals will hit the rider's legs while standing in front of them!!! Terrible modeling-rendering by the way, not even school quality.
Edgardo Ignacio   02.20.12
It could be better!
Dario   02.20.12
It looks as though PS is getting lazy, not only is he relying on his recognition to fool people in to believing this is good design, but he uses a second rate render to present the concept.

It is irritating to see such a great opportunity new young designers go to waste when Peugeot decide to chose celebrity over innovation.
NotImpressed   02.20.12
I'd actually consider buying this bike, but finding a sales outlook in the US doesn't seem likely. Ah...well, and I'll be called Environmentally Retarded for not buying one, no doubt.
Ric A Ohge   02.20.12
terrible! i wish "name" designers would not assume they are good at designing everything. this is a very poor piece of engineering
bilbaggins   02.21.12
Before criticising it might help understanding what the project is about. Looking funky is often part of the design spec for a city-run public bike system, as for the Paris one: if they get stolen they're harder to resell as everybody knows they're city bikes, and if someone is seen riding one outside the usage perimeter, they can be reprimanded and the bike returned to the city. Being bulky/heavy is good as well, for the same reason and because they should be robust to riders who may not be that careful with public property.
cig   02.21.12
When would you scoot on a bike? In a pedestrian area maybe? The skaters will be pleased.
The three words that come to mind looking at this design are heavy, flexi and inefficient, not things normally considered positives by engineers.
fintan   02.22.12
the only image that come to mind is an elephant in a shopping mall
