‘no35 automatica carcanapé’ by bless for kvadrat

the fashion and design studio of bless (ines kaag + desiree heiss) focuses on producing objects which introduce ideas and artistic values to the public, collaborating with a range of creatives, from architects to graphic designers.

the berlin and paris-based duo’s latest project ‘no35 automatica carcanapé’, produced in collaboration with kvadrat is a bespoke car canopy constructed from the iconic hallingdal 65 fabric produced by the danish textile company. through this work, bless offers their services to create these pieces for ‘supercars’, in a play on the car as a status symbol; the sheath fitting snugly around every contour of the car thanks to some deft pattern cutting. the ‘no35 automatica carcanapé’ can also be used as an interior element or piece of furniture, padded with foam and parked in the middle of your living room.

‘no35 automatica carcanapé’ was presented as part of the kvadrat hallingdal 65 exhibition on show at the jil sander showroom during milan design week 2012. designed by nanna ditzel in 1965, the hallingdal fabric was the first to be produced by kvadrat, and has since been updated with a new color scale known as the ‘hallingdal 65’. in celebration of the material’s success, the danish company invited a new generation of 32 designers to create new works which use the textile and explore new applications for it.
