‘clock clock white’

swedish/german design studio humans since 1982 produce works which explore the connection between design, art and function. each project takes a common object and reinterprets its use, thus showing it in a way which has the potential to change its relationship with the viewer.

‘clock clock white’ is composed of 24 two-handed analogue alarm clocks – six are arranged to make each number – that display time digitally. the hands become the corners of the numbers in a convergence of the two time-telling methods. previously available in black with square clocks, the newest version features a white circular wall version. for the technology that drives the timepiece, humans since 1982 cooperated with engineer david cox. for more information read designboom’s previous coverage of ‘the clock clock‘ from which this latest design is derived.

the functional sculpture, ‘light on ground’ has more than 80 LED bulbs, all different sizes and color temperatures, attached to the bottom of an elongated rectangular encasing. the limited edition pieces explore scale through the use of the numerous small light bulbs which are juxtaposed in contrast against the long, vertical expanses which they illuminate.

a display cabinet becomes a wall lamp as it exhibits a collection of LEDs. the technology is placed similarly to a scientific study as the bulbs are classified by size and color temperature, with a label under each grouping. the piece is available in four sizes, from 70 to 400 LEDs. see designboom’s previous coverage of ‘collection of light‘.

a wall version of the pendant light features the form of a surveillance camera which has been refurbished to become lamps. due to its original function, ‘surveillance light’ has an unusual effect on the viewer. see designboom’s coverage of ‘surveillance chandelier‘, a previous execution of this concept.

the collection will be presented by victor hunt gallery at design miami/basel from the 12th until the 17th of june, 2012, and at phillips de pury new york from june 26th until august 31st.
