american based designer katie stout has developed ‘tray table’, which explores the relationship between function and context by challenging the utility of cafeteria trays. the table’s ornamental form dissociates the original function from the cafeteria with heavy reference to victorian aesthetics. its curvilinear cutouts make the individual trays unusable and instead refine them into a decorative piece of furniture for the home.

‘bump in your rug’ serves as a functional illusion for the floor. the extruded wedge hybridizes rug and ottoman to create an interior landscape meant for seating, eating and story telling.  stout references new england craft and hypnotic spirals, fusing tradition in a practical piece for every day use.
