‘savage chair’ by jay saejung oh jute (plant fiber), plastic objects 56″ x 44″ x 42″

korean designer jay sae jung oh uses mass manufactured plastic products as the base of his furniture constructions ‘savage chair’ and ‘jute side table’.

highlighting themes of consumption and our cultural condition of living in abundance of what we actually need, he explores the notion of ‘humanufactured’ taking everyday mundane objects such as plastic chairs, rocking horses, teapots, suitcases etc., and amalgamating them in such a way that makes viewers reconsider the ordinary. the assemblage of pieces results in functional furniture wrapped together into a seamless work by natural fiber material jute, resurrecting these once discarded objects and breathing new life into them.

‘I would like to provoke people into having different perspectives on these types of mass produced products,’ says oh.
