tsai design studio : nested bunkbeds

tsai design studio originally designed 'the nested bunkbed' for a south african design competition which required
designers to create a 36 square meter home for 7-8 people; a common condition in south africa. the bunkbed
won the competition and a red dot award. the design was inspired by the iconic matriochka russian dolls.
4 bed sets were installed in an aids orphanage in wellington, south africa, sleeping 20 children through an initiative
set up by design competition sponsors. 200 more beds will be produced this year for other orphanages and will
eventually be available to the public once the factory is up and running.
