the d&ad student awards were announced at the end of june. while the awards mainly
covers graphic and advertising work some product designs and furniture were also
honoured. the furniture design prize went to charlotte kingsnorth of buckinghamshire
new university for her sofa ‘one’. inspired by the artwork of jenny saville and the media
coverage of obesity, kingsnorth crafted this sofa. a simple beech wood framed is
“devoured” by its obese occupant, or in this case an upholstered cushion. the brief
was for vitra editions, asking for furniture that is “unencumbered by commercial
constraints and pushes the boundaries of innovative furniture design”. a gallery of
