mike sheldrake surfer and former web programmer has designed a cardboard surfboard, using 3d modelling software. each cardboard slat is cut using a computer controlled saw. when each slat is snapped together the slats form hexagonal and triangular patterns, giving the board its structural strength. to make the board waterproof sheldrake used the same methods used for traditional surfboards, wrapping it in fibreglass cloth hardened with epoxy resin. sheldrake is still experimenting with materials, to make the board lighter before he puts into manufacture.
