marti guixé was another one of the participants of 'droog event 2: urban play', the amsterdam route,
presenting his intervention 'sculpt me point'. standing outside of the historic lloyd hotel, 'sculpt me point' was a
work in progress. during the opening week, workers could be seen mixing concrete and building up the large
cubic mass with concrete blocks. in drawing from the 'creative city' and providing outlets of social interaction
to the people of amsterdam, guixé's installation, which has a strong focus on object and form, aims to alter ways
of seeing and thinking in which the user plays an active role. guixé works with ideas captured in characteristic
sketches with the final design often having endless possibilities through the use of disposable, cheap materials.
his solid rock 'sculpt me point' is no different. with a chisel and hammer attached at various points on the block,
visitors are encouraged to approach the heavy, geometric mass to carve away and leave their own mark.
there is also a bench surrounding the block so that passers-by can stop to sit, observe the activities and perhaps
even give a critique. as an immediate object, the block is undesigned with guixé leaving its future up to the
public of amsterdam.
