new public space furniture designed by frank tjepkema and manufactured by hypsos
frank tjepkema has just presented a new public furniture project for the dutch railways. the installation is
located in the central hallway of amsterdam's amstel station. key requirements of the furniture designed for
the space was that they had to have a balance of privacy and openness. the arrangement of the pieces had to
initiate social interaction, but at the same time, provide opportunities for more private moments. the furniture is
made from veneer and leather and is manufactured by hypsos.

the public gets comfortable with the new furniture while waiting for their train in amsterdam's amstel station

the furniture also provides room for plants and trees, greening the space

some of the furniture is constructed to provide some privacy
