behind the design: delaware bluestone project by max lamb

last week, designboom featured the debut US exhibit by british designer max lamb at johnson trading gallery
in new york. the show features a number of lamb’s past works and a collection of new piece made from
delaware bluestone. these pieces use large chunks of rock which have been precisely cut into benches
tables and seating. we have now received a behind the scenes look at how these new pieces were made.
in the following photographs, taken by max himself, we can see how the delaware bluestone was sourced,
cut and turned into the final piece.
lamb’s work is often material focused and the process is as interesting as the final piece. we previously
featured an inside look at how he makes the piece in the series ‘solids of revolution' which consists of
stools made from concrete and felt.
