belgian fashion designer martin margiela has been showing his avant-garde clothing creations for 20 years.
over the years he has made a name for himself thanks to his non-traditional garments and mysterious
personality. adding to the allure is the maison martin margiela website. visitors to the site are greeted with
a faux dialog box styled like the windows operating system. further into the site, navigation has been styled
to make it look like an ftp site or digital archive. clicking images brings up larger boxes and visitors are
sporadically greeted with pop-up ads and fake ms-dos style windows. this digital mash-up is quite
appropriate for margiela deconstructed fashion lines which often take ordinary objects and turn them into
haute-couture.

this october marked the 20th anniversary of maison martin margiela. the fashion museum antwerp is
presenting an exhibition to commemorate the event. ‘maison martin margiela (20) the exhibition’ is running
from september 12, 2008 - february 8, 2009.
