'industry' by studio job

‘screen’, 2008 (black dyed tulip tree, white dyed bird’s eye maple veneer, gloss finish)
november 18, 2008 – january 10, 2009
edward mitterrand and stéphanie cramer will be presenting ‘industry’ a new installation by designers job smeets
and nynke tynagel of studio job. the exhibition is the first in a 6 part series of exhibits dedicated to contemporary
limited design. the show will feature seven new works, five of which are marquetry objects: a cabinet, a screen,
a dressoir, a table and a pedestal all inlayed with white dyed bird’s eye maple and black dyed tulip tree veneer.
the studio adapted this traditional woodworking technique using modern laser cutting technology. the pieces
all feature intricate and thin patterns, achieving something not possible before. the patterns depict objects
and symbolism representative of modern capitalism in a rorschach like arrangement. helicopters, nuclear
power plants, high voltage pylons, guns, bullets, hunting knives and a series of animals are only some of
the images depicted.
