Very Clever indeed.

The only one I don't understand is the Die Hard poster?
Maybe I forget something from this movie...
Very good designs though!

In Die Hard 1, remember the moment when he's running away from the bad guys and they shoot out all the windows with the only means of escape are walking over the broken glass.
Jayomatic   12.23.08
wow
all these posters are very good
she is extremely talented
I'd love to buy a few copies of these

@ Mike:

She? The article says that he's a He. Olly is a guy's name. :p
lol   12.27.08
this stuff is awesome. the 60's asthetic is an interesting genre to operate within.
I really enjoyed these!
Sarah NYC   12.27.08
@mike : deerhunter, die hard 1 and american history x.. and still you can think that he is a she?
ozan   12.30.08
@ozan: I enjoy all of those movies and I am female. open your little sexist eyes, and stop buying into gender rolls.

I haven't seen other posters by Olly, but the ones shown here on this page are not very clever at all. Most are derivative works. The only one that shows any originality is the Deer Hunter poster. The Dark Knight poster is straight out of the Batman animated series from the 90s (mixed with a little bit of the Amadeus movie poster). The Indiana Jones poster and the Great Dictator poster are simply variations on extremely old optical illusions. And the American History X and Die Hard posters are heavily lacking in imagination.

Now, like I said, I haven't seen other posters by this artist, so maybe the ones posted on this page are merely bad examples of this artist's larger body of work. I do appreciate the simplistic approach and eye-catching nature of these posters, but after the initial reaction, you quickly realize that no real thought went into these posters and they're no better than a high school freshman's art project.

wow, pretty great. The 'Great Dictator' poster is one of the best.
And the illustration for the NY Times with American- English and Farsi bubbles is provoking deep thought. absolutely fabulous
izadora   01.02.09
wow. the simplicty of the design makes it so much more striking. very good.
joey   01.03.09
Fortunately Isaac, in the world of movie poster art, even from the best, deep thought provoking work isn't a requisite. It's about what sells. Simplicity here is your greatest ally and even you note an initial positive reaction to their eye catching nature. You've now walked past the poster at this point, you're out of time to contemplate its design. Come with me and spend some time in your local art museum, you can bark insults at those artists work if you'd like - or would you wrather have another floating head glaring out at you from the walls of your cinema?
nathan   01.03.09
Remember, simplicity is the new black. Distilling these films down to one bold, representative image is very creative. Even more so if he stole the image! I like it much better than most commercial "Hollywood" posters.

I checked out his website: Olly is also the guy who designed that spoilers T-shirt: "Snape killed Dumbledore", "Soylent Green is made of people" etc. AWESOME
Jeff   01.04.09
loved it
aaron   01.05.09
@isaac: i don't undestand your critic on these wonderful posters. of course he took for well known optical illusions for example the indiana jones poster, but isn't that a great idea in itself. this illusion fits perfect to illustrate indiana jones in the most simple way you could imagine. like jeff already said, it's a great job to bring a whole movie down to one (very simple) picture.
