‘plug!’ series by tomas kral

tomas kral was born in slokavia and graduated from the industrial design masters program at ECAL
this past year. one of his projects from his degree was the ‘plug!’ series of products. the collection
features a variety of lamps, vases and other designs that are all based on transforming ‘the image of
a simple cork’. each piece experiments with how cork can integrate with hard materials such as glass.
the cork in the projects was shaped using CNC technology and the glass was all hand blown.
the laminated cork sheets were intentionally designed to show the marks from the CNC tooling,
showing their construction in the final piece. the designs were kept simple to highlight the connection
between the glass and the cork.
tomas kral was a winner in designboom's H2O_on the table competition in 2004 for his 'modullo' design.
