‘duo sofa’ is a modular seating system designed by french designer fred rieffel. the design was created for
the manufacturer ARFA and was later awarded a red dot design award and a good design award. the sofa
is dual sided allowing users to sit on the back and front. in the front, the sofa is more conventional, while
the back is a more bench-like seat. the two sides are also set at different heights to further differentiate them.
the sofa has three pieces which can be combined in a number of different configurations. while the design
is intended to be used in a more public setting, it would function equally well in the home. most seating
provides only a single sitting option, while the ‘duo sofa’ provides two.
