droog new york

the dutch design collective and retailer droog, is opening their first US store in new york today. the outlet
in new york’s SoHo neighbourhood joins droog at home in amsterdam and droog tokyo in japan. the new
store is their biggest to date and held its grand opening last night. the design of the space by jurgen bey
does away with gallery white walls and precious pedestals, opting for a lived-in look that is closer to an
artist’s studio. going along with this theme, absolutely everything in the store is for sale. even the store
furnishings can be made to order in limited editions that are specifically tailored to the buyer. this was an
intentional decision to continually evolve what is in the space over time, keeping it fresh. besides classic
pieces from the droog collection, the new york space also boasts a blue house, made from insulation foam;
a wall made of removable furniture pieces and a blue staircase which leads to nowhere.
