eelko moorer: bearskin rug and jungle vase

dutch designer eelko moorer recently sent us some images of his new work. based in london, moorer is
perhaps best known for his 2000-2003 design ‘bearskin rug’. the unusual rug is cast from urethane rubber
weighs close to 50 kg. the rug was inspired by the simplification of reality found in toys. moorer was curious
what would result when this effect is brought back into reality. the rug can be mounted on the
wall or used on the floor and comes in white, brown and black.
moorer’s current project is the ‘jungle vase’, a urethane vase with ‘hairs’ of silicone cord. the design is
made using rotation moulding and comes in 100cm and 50 cm hair lengths. the longer design is to be
used for hanging from objects, giving the vase a whole new functionality. the vase was first shown at
‘great brits’, moorer’s 2007 display at the paul smith boutique in milan.
