anna van der lei: bath cabinet

‘bath cabinet’ by anna van der lei (photo: rene van der hulst)
young designer anna van der lei combines a bath and cabinet to create a portable bath that doubles as a closet.
the cabinet or ‘badkast’ in dutch, was one of van der lei’s projects at the design academy in eindhoven where
she graduated in 2008. the project drew its influences from her dutch/finnish background and summers
bathing in lake side saunas in the finnish countryside. the design is made from a single larch tree trunk that
was dried for eight years prior to using, allowing it to stand up to water exposure. the cabinet can be opened
at the front and back allowing the user to place the piece in the open, bathing anywhere they please. the bath
is filled and drained via a series of hose hookups that are located on the side of the design.
