studio job is currently presenting their new body of work in the exhibition
entitled 'the gospel' at milan design week.

job smeets of studio job explains their 'gospel' exhibition;
this is no protest or imputation against the body of religion. respectfully these icons
have been selected and designed. although nynke and me do not practice religion,
we enjoy the incredible fatal and expressive drama's which are executed,
immortalized in extreme inventories full of holy pomp and splendor. we used the icon
and religion as canvas and metaphor to visualize and express how our 'high culture’
becomes more fantastic by the minute. the abstract truth is more exciting than
physical evidence. in many ways that's a great source of inspiration.

a 17 piece grand rusted service casted out of 2000 kg foundry iron. this installation is the
'monument' of the exhibition and visualizes the complex simplicity of the eternal and
scale-less icon.

the last supper (service) ceramic set

the last supper is the mother form of an identical ceramic service set of 12 pieces made
out of faience and manufactured by royal tichelaar makkum. all the models are ‘sculptured’
by hand in studio job's ateliers which is shown in the organic surface of the final pieces.
in cooperation with royal tichelaar makkum they developed 15 fresh and bright
coloured glazes. now for the first time in 150 years, new scenes and tableaus are applied
in polychrome by the painters in makkum.
