patricia urquiola: 'ravel', 'canasta' and 'crinoline' for B&B italia
patricia urquiola approached the outdoor furniture starting from the theme of woven patterns- reviving and personalizing the concept with a traditional look in mind, but giving it a decisively contemporary look without nostalgic influence.

ravel's woven polyethylene backs blend with a metal base producing a modular
element in two different sizes, that can be freely positioned to form linear or corner seats
or chaise longue and units. pouf elements can be used both as intervals between seat and
to increase seat depth.

the seating elements were inspired by the conical shape and weave that is similar to baskets,
hence the name 'canasta' (the spanish word for basket). traditional vienna straw, with its decorative
geometric shape, is also a model for these pieces; the traditional pattern was amplified, increasing
it to macro-proportions compared to the original, and was used to make a dramatic line of comfortable
chairs and sofas.

with 'crinoline' patricia urquiola's study on 3D texture reaches formal, soft and sinuous
results that develops into seats, small armchairs and armchairs that vary in shape, height and materials.
the black-white and black-bronze dual colored polyethylene weave joins the natural fiber or bronze
string.
