malafor: 'the rest' from the second life series at DMY berlin design festival 09

polish-based design studio malafor, presented their new project series 'second life'
at the DMY berlin design festival 09. the design duo of agata kulik-pomorska and pawel pomorski,
started the 'second life' series as a response to questions surrounding the idea of certain tools
having dual functions: 'can we enrich their existence with a second life?' the concept was derived
from how simple tools are gradually disappearing from our lives. malafor's idea was to save
them from extinction by giving them a second life.
the first project of the series is 'rest', a chair back made of plastic or DuPont Corian® applied to the
common garden shovel. the shovel + the chair back in combination with each other is no longer
a mundane tool, but adopts a second life in the form of a seat.
