scraplab

while most designers are creating waste with their products, scrablab is a collective of designers working
to turn waste into products. the initiative is based at kasetsart university in bangkok, thailand and works
with manufacturers and designers to reactivate manufacturing waste such as off-cuts and left-overs. a key
element of their process is their database of industrial waste that catalogs information on waste materials.
scraplab has an ecological mindset but also firmly believes in creating employment opportunities and
creating valuable products through their process. here is a selection of products created by member’s of
the scraplab.

I'd drop the s in the title. more appropriate...

i think that wrapping chair frames in a long cord/ribbon/pipe can seriously no longer be passed off as design, but merely a direct copy.
karl 06.25.09
its not about generating new designs, rather to find new ways to return and up cycle industrial waste into consumer products.

So tired of everybody hating on so called copying. Tired of everybody hating on other creative people, period. Espicially anonymously. And please don't try to call this constructive critizism.
I think what scraplab does is amazing.

Got to agree with the more positive responses above.. The emphasis is on re-using, not totally new design concepts. As a result, we should appreciate the point of it, not some other fine design agenda. I think it's a valid and positive thing to show and talk about - would you rather it never existed? In which case, where is your pivotal contribution to the world of design?
Also, anonymous posting of insult is so dull. The items above don't really appeal much to my sense of aesthetic, but come on..
