designer will carey has sent us images of his new work. the first is the 'ticker tape' radio,
an internet radio for people who desire tailor-made content. using the internet,
'ticker tape' scans for news stories around the world and broadcasts it to the listener
who can manage content via the corresponding 'ticker tape' website. by pulling the cord,
the listener can determine the length of broadcast they want to hear. the project explores
the creation of internet material and how it is controlled, how we assert control over what
we see and listen too, and how this content can take control over us.

the second project is 'native commodities' which studies the intolerable limits of sharing,
manufacturing and interacting with biological data from our bodies.
the aesthetics of three spittoons for capturing bodily fluid have been explored.
as genome technologies promote open sourcing of the human body, can such data be extended
into other forms of biological manufacture? synthetic biology and nanotechnologies have made
it possible to reprogramme cells, but would be be prepared to consider using our bodies to do this?

will carey graduated from central st. martins in 2002 and has since worked for such
consultancies as IDEO. his work looks at the often intractable problems of emerging technologies,
and the exploration of new interactions in product design.
will carey participated in designboom's handled with care exhibition, with his 'butler' and 'print' projects.
