arndt menke- zumbragel: woodway bicycle
berlin designer arndt menke- zumbragel is the creator of this unique bicycle made using wood.
the project began by investigating the use of wood as a construction material, paying close
attention to its particular considerations. the result is a fully functional bike with a frame weight of
2.3 kg. with some special metal parts and carefully constructed wood pieces, arndt has created
a bike that blends new and old together into one unique package. make sure to check out the
bent wood detail on the rear support.

A Brilliant piece of engineering that combines aesthetics, ergonomics, utility and functionality. When your not riding it , it would also look great on the lounge room wall.
It would be interesting to find out the cost of producing such a design achievement economically.
Arndt menke- zumbragels project is inspiring and I wish them great fortune for the future.

this may be a design project but for the bicycle part it's only funny... bike that weights only 2.3kg- right!- what scale is it then?
the special metal is troughout known as aluminium...
i'm also not sure what's new about it... and what's old?!
regarding the aesthetics for me the frame geometry is rather boring and functionally limited (for it doesn't seem to be a real track geometry... that it should be if it's fixed gear... what i assume it is, as it has no brakes)

Definitely a great effort, but i wonder how robust is it?! In terms of styling its just too simple, that it somewhere looks a little incomplete. But great execution.

The only sad thing is that same frame from best alloy, titanium or carbon is 1kilogram lighter.

We all have to remember this is a show bike. show bikes are built for design and aesthetics. They don't need to be able to be thrashed around town or the local velodrome. I am an avid cycleist and graphic/apparel designer and this bike has it all. It is Beautiful! As for the geometry, the head angle might be a bit more slack than a track frame but that would make it a little less "twitchy" for around town use which would be nice. The BB is still relatively tall which would still let you rail corners. Awesome design, well thought out. amazing chainstays btw.

This bike is will slap! It is okay for short period of time. In theory, for a long term at the rear of frame will become weak and slap. Although, it is very good looking design and should be good for bike shop display!
