russia-based yar rassadin is a product designer who works on projects which range from lamps, mp3 players, USB flash drives to salt and pepper shakers. in doing so, he tries to discover new meanings in ordinary objects.

his project, TIN lamp for triode design / paris is a contemporary art object which reverses the roles of the light bulb and lamp shade. TIN sands for ‘torshier in lamp’, in which you find that the light bulb has become the lamp, with the lampshade housed within acting as the ‘bulb’.

‘olympic’ is a power strip for champions. the simple design is based on the medal podiums of the olympic games, so you can decide which device is of a winning standard to plug in.

rassadin has also been a short-listed winner of our designboom competition swarovski crystal vision. his entry ‘beehouse lamp’ combines the natural building process of bees with crystal technology. here, honey is transfered into crystals, emitting a warm yellow glow, making it a key element in this light design. the scheme in which the cells are filled is taken from the actual process of beehive building.
