portuguese designer, fernando brizio will be exhibiting his table 'target' in the 'lapse in time'
exhibition at this year's experimentadesign lisboa.

the exhibition looks at design between elasticity and socio-cultural responsibility.
against the backdrop of growing globalization and the increasing interchangeability
of everyday products, 'lapse in time' spotlights young uncompromising designers whose work
aspires to a change in paradigm, one that is also temporal. at the opposite end of mainstream
production circuits, these distinct creative statements share a radical perspective of product design
at the intersection of art, science, sustainability and socio-cultural insight.

brizio is also responsible for the exhibition design of 'lapse in time'.

fernando brizio's 'target' table is made from wood and arrows.
arrows are embedded into targets via a bow, making each table unique. in the end,
once enough arrows have been shot, the target is taken down from the wall and flipped over,
with the arrows functioning as the support legs for the table.

portuguese design needs a leap forward, not backward. Brizio is a great guy and a great designer, but he should really leave the 90's behind and start designing 'real products' for 'real people' for the 'real world'. I mean, it's ok that he may want to follow an artistic-conceptual approach to design, but almost 99% of portuguese designers do that.

The only thing that Brizio differs from this, is that Brizio has good skills and culture that make him different from those other 99% designers. Just don't waste your time and mind on this kind of stuff, and start creating useful products.

well, oversign and concept. portuguese design perhaps must go forward and participe to the design of the XXI century.
