felissimo’s 500 colored pencil set for social designer

felissimo’s 500 colored pencil set for social designer

designed by felissimo for social designer this complete set of 500 colored pencils consists
of 20 units, each pencil telling its own story with a unique name. you cannot buy the complete
set of pencils all at once, but you can receive them over the course of 20 months.
four different display methods let you keep your pencils at hand, while being displayed either
as an artwork, or kept aside as a special collection. the cases have been designed especially
for the 500 colored pencils and are available in a limited edition.

social designer promotes crowdsourced design for good causes.

I think its great! Monochrome is boring.

a great alternative to a boring box or tin!

'a great alternative to a boring box or tin!'

Yeah totally.... at like 10 times the price.
Feh.
/me/   08.21.09
Whats it going to look like, if your actually use them, and they all end up random sizes. Not quite so slick, sitting next to your Barcelona chair
Da_huuudge   08.21.09
The pencils are only available by subscription - 1 set per month for 20 months. The cases are available all at once or over 5 months.
Mark   08.21.09
Arrgh. I work so hard on my art, and then someone gets all this great publicity by hanging the corporate pencil distribution product on a wall - just take them out of the package and glue them to the wall. Awesom.
fxkd   08.21.09
SO THE PENCILS ARE THE ART, NOT THE CONCEPT?
SICK   08.21.09
Seems to me the colored pencils should be the medium, not the art. Anyone can hang a spectrum on a wall. That's the first thing you learn in elementary art class - rainbow, like your pencils.
Maxx   08.21.09
Love to see what a toddler with half an hour would do to this "artwork". :D
ancienthart   08.22.09
How would that be any fun, you wouldn't be able to use them without feeling guilty.
Tea   08.22.09
There goes the whole concept of mixing your own colours.

It's a pretty cool idea, but how is anyone going to not mess up the order?
Teacup   08.22.09
it look like boring! but i love them all!!
thiti   08.22.09
wow! that is color pencil heaven!

"Whats it going to look like, if your actually use them, and they all end up random sizes. Not quite so slick, sitting next to your Barcelona chair"

Agreed. xD
Yshura   08.22.09
I think they would look even more beautiful used; they would have a wonderfully organic quality.

The delightful part of this work is how it merges the idea of the platonic beauty of a chromatic spread, with the symbolic beauty of the pencil as an artistic medium, and (if you choose to use the pencils) the very visible degredation of human use.

Furthermore, to the person who said that coloured pencil should be the medium & not the artwork; Coloured pencil is the medium here. In creating the work, the pencils are arranged. It's just as real an aesthetic choice as rubbing the pencils on a piece of paper.
Brawnfire   08.22.09
Love the collections!
So lovely, fresh & vibrant!
yoon see   08.22.09
my 8 year old loves organising pencils by ccolour, in various differnet moods...god she's so arty obviously
sarimama   08.22.09
Well isn't that cool! I never thought of using my coloured pencils as decorative pieces!

Thanks for posting.

Color is great. Too many gray cars in the world
soundkat   08.23.09
what happens when you sharpen a pencil? it will be shorter that all of them

stupid idea
joiancio   08.23.09
i think it's fun interactive art and i love that, as the pencils get used, the images would become less geometrical and you could work creatively with shape as well as color.
lk   08.23.09
while sharpening the pencils will make some shorter than others, doesn't it just add to the artwork itself? Drawing is art. Pencils create art. Who is to say that the pencils in their lifespan can't create artwork in themselves? It would be interesting, i think, to use the pencils and watch the wall develop and not be a stagnant piece of work
bec   08.23.09
one of the dumbest designer items i've ever seen. who wants a colored pencil subscription that takes nearly 2 years? and for what?

art fail
this is dumb   08.23.09
curious to find out if they sell after all a set of pencils is hardly something you can't find anywhere...
now on the idea of useing the actual pencils they would have to be good pencils otherwise just go buy your own set...like derwent or something...
the idea of putting pencils on a wall is great but its hardly a huge step forward as an idea we put books on a shelf and now pencils...an artist media library seen it before already do it by meself...not dissing the idea though....good luck in selling them
mike   08.23.09
It's a crying shame if you ask someone who only has a hundred colored pencils . But then again let me at that wall and you could believe there wouldn't be any order to those pencils. Ah the expression of internal joy ground into whatever was nearest....... Yes I would begin shrinking that collection immediately, I'd even invite friends!
ArtistX   08.23.09
Very interesting, the aurora and color wave display things are really nice looking. But not very practical for most people/artists... It would be cool to have a blank wall or a sheet of paper mounted on your wall, then display these next to it, and have a big, ever-developing communal art piece on your wall, for you and all your friends or visitors to contribute to.
Siddhartha   08.23.09
that would be awesome! a comunal art peice! i want one!!!!!!!
midnight painter   08.23.09
brilliant and interesting
mennis   08.23.09
This is the kind of useless overkill consumer crap that makes me want to puke.
bubba babe   08.27.09
i love these colour pencils
Muhammad Ahsan   08.27.09
I created a pencil holder similar to this with peg board. Just drilled out the holes a bit larger so it holds all 200+ of my colored pencils. Wish I had see this first. It would've been a bit easier but I suppose not as much fun.

I can't believe all the nasty comments about hating this idea. I feel sad for those people. Why even bother to comment it your not going to contribute.

And don't bother to comment on my comment as I'm sure I'll never come back to this site and read these posts again so keep all the petty comments to yourself.

Art + Utility! Love this concept. Hopefully, they don't get out of order! Pop + Shorty
Ashley D.   08.27.09
i love i think it is awesome
lyndacreate   08.27.09
I think it's cool. Really pretty. It's also good that you can bend it. I have to agree, this is not the most original idea, but it's useful and decorative any-who. :D
ladida   08.27.09
This is one brilliant idea! I wonder if it'll work at home... I've got kids.
@BebopDesigner   08.27.09
Cool.
Stojke   08.28.09
I think its the quality of the pencil that counts not all the crap gimics.
weasel   08.28.09
cool idea. but they need to stop plugging their goddamn name... "courtesy of social designer" running through my head now.
Sars   08.31.09
I want some!!!
Murfomurf   08.31.09
If someone so much as bumps that wall, won't all the pencils come cascading down onto the floor?
Sk--   08.31.09
i want the animals!
3lil3   08.31.09
i love this and can't wait to get my set. i know they recently had them at PRATT and i was able to try out a set. the quality is great. sign me up!
MA   09.01.09
Whoa. That would be ridiculously convenient! I need to get some of those!
SCTA   09.01.09
Looks great but not sure if i would class it has art, sticking pencils to a wall is shorely not art. Have your photos to canvas art now that would look great or maybe thats just me been bias?
jamie   09.03.09
Great visual effect, not very practical though... and I guess real art comes when you decide to move out and unmount these from the wall : plenty of coloured random traces when pencils are gone ;)
rusak srg   09.04.09
great..!
Javad Yazdani   09.06.09
for decoration fabulous, for drawing: inferior pencil quality! cancelled after first shipment.
roxygirl   01.05.10
as a stationery addict would love to have it in my room but waiting 20 MONTHS? are you serious?? and whats the price?
M   01.08.10
I don't think this warrants discussion. Its just nice.
