patrick morris: sky planter

'sky planter'

designed by central saint martins graduate patrick morris, 'sky planter'
provides a solution to fussy plants in small spaces or a way to use
plants as design elements. the 'sky planter' made of ceramics locks the
plant and soil into the place and hang from a ceiling or wall-mount.
a reservoir hidden in the top waters plants gradually.

really against nature...

how is this supposed to work over a longer period of time? the way a plant works is: upper part grows upwards, roots downwards. they "know" the direction they have to grow to. you dont fool a plant by simply turning it upside down, youd have to reverse gravity around the plant to do so.
the whole thing will result in awkward creatures and quite a bunch of plants wont even survive this procedure. certainly no plant will look anything close to what is pictured here after a few months or maybe even weeks.

true...actually...i think the plant would start growin upward and the rooot downwards...and result, the usual plant in a very wierd lookin pot...Good DEsign!

Muy idiota este artefacto!!! Porque tenemos la capacidad de crear cosas pensamos que podemos manipular la naturaleza a nuestro regalado gusto... No puedes simplemente voltear las cosas solo porque resulte "estético"

is there any benefit for the plant to be up side down.... or is just fun?
Diego Graf   08.25.09
I doubt that there would be any actual benefit to the plants. There are some plants, however, that live in arboreal settings, on tree branches and such, that wouldn't mind being upside down. The orchids and ferns are good examples of these...
