'shavings' stool by yoav avinoam
israeli designer yoav avinoam, a recent graduate of the bezalel academy of art and design,
jerusalem has sent us images of his project 'shavings'. the sawdust from all kinds of woods
have been pressed with resin into a mold that already contains all of the object parts.
avinoam explored new ways of integration between the legs of the furniture and the sawdust
through expansion of the joints and the way the sawdust crumbles toward the edges
to creates a new material, which was once destined to be waste.

I don't know about the stools, they look a little too much like bran muffins for me. Sure they're made using sawdust, but the resin means there is no way to dispose of this product other than in the dump.
The bench, on the other hand, is an amazingly beautiful object that seems to actually justify the use of its materials a little better through the symbolism. That's what should be featured here.

wow! where can i buy the table?

I agree completely with KG. The bench really has a unique beauty, and uses the material in a compelling way. I think it is attractive enough to justify the use of resin.
At the same time, I think there are probably more inventive, practical, and environmentally friendly ways to use sawdust.

the bench's top looks like a chocolate cake!
yum i like it!
the stools are cool even if they use resin. i think its worth the enviromental issue just to do something interesting with saw dust.
i'm sure someone in the world right now is working on an enviromentally friendly resin.
great work

formed from a molded polyester-based textile which is heated and shaped, the seating object is actualized in such a way that the material itself becomes appreciated for its highly visual and tangible textural quality.
