10 years with ettore sottsass

'10 years with ettore' was a celebration of the projects of ettore sottsass which he designed
in the last ten years of his life. each object and piece of furniture ettore produced had its own story
and origin, realized in a particular moment for a precise reason. held at the galleria clio calvi rudy volpi,
the pieces on show each addressed the intellectual motives and sentiments which sottsass expressed
through his work. for sottsass design was about communicating an emotion while having fun doing it -
experiencing moments of enthusiasm and joy. hence, works like 'foresta' and 'akub' are not just
a desk and a cabinet. they make room for dreaming and something more than their obvious function.
some of the projects on show have remained prototypes until now.

'we think it is important, to hand down the memory of sottsass especially as a person,
hoping to transmit to those with the sensitivity to understand, the spirit of the man who taught us
and left us freedom, curiosity and generosity. the talent is his.'

Really? This seems like something a 1980's teenager had to do for a design project. "Bright colors, strong geometry, random structure. That's modern, right?" Like the stuff that Paris Hilton's sister's hotel her friend designed. Maybe it's because it's pseudo Memphis style, which I'm not in love with, but even then this would be bad Memphis.
