nobuhiro teshima: crank trick #2

nobuhiro teshima: crank trick #2

japanese designer nobuhiro teshima adds a puzzling element to this simple drawer unit.
mysteriously, the drawers have no pulls or visible method of opening. instead, the user
must rotate the top piece of the unit to open the drawers. the experimental design employs
a link mechanism that connects the drawers to the spinning top so all four drawers
simultaneously open. the table is made from birch plywood and solid beech.

This is a really clever, playful design, although it's a little bit unfortunate that the drawers are on all four sides, meaning the table must be placed completely free-standing... not something you see often.
