french designer emilie voirin has a solid stable of work, including a couple of unusual chair designs made
of rattan. while rattan is mostly a very stayed material, voirin uses it in new forms that break from tradition.
below you can see her collaboration with jerome nelet, a rattan and bamboo chair designed to mimic the
iconic panton chair. this design was part of the ‘made in china’ series, exhibited earlier this year in milan.
her other piece is the ‘emmanuelle is shy’ chair, which features a large owning over the sitter. the chair is
intended to suggest being seen without seeing. voirin explained that the chair’s design echoes to the
aesthetic of the erotic movie emmanuelle.
