matteo thun and antonio rodriguez: arba lighting for belux

the collection of lights includes a standing, table, suspension and wall light

arba is a new family of lighting by matteo thun and antonio rodriguez for belux.
the designs fulfill current requirements of sustainability and energy-saving lighting.
local maple wood is the main material used. the wood filters the cool light of the
energy-saving fluorescent lamps creating a warm light. the use of cylindrical diffusers
emphasize the vibrancy and characteristics of the wood grain.

arba is available in four versions: a standing, table, suspension and wall light.
the shade for the standing and table lights are held by five interwoven strips of maple
which have been smoothed and oiled. soft edges provide the light with a contrast to the
vigor of the materials used. in a slow-drying process, the strips are dried naturally to maintain
their form. a steel cable allows the suspension light to swing gently and the crimson textile
fiber power cable adds even stronger emphasis to its form. the arba family of lamps
are equipped with high-quality (dali) electronics and energy-saving fluorescent lights of
constant flux which have a long operating life.

'our goal was to create a light that, despite state-of-the-art light sources, gives warmth
and natural lighting, is easy to carry and becomes one with its surroundings. these aspects
gave rise to a sustainable family of lights made of a single material from native maple wood –
both with a new look and with an iconic but archetypal wooden pedestal which is well-known
and familiar.'
