the lapse in time exhibition, curated by hans maier-aichen as part of experimentadesign lisboa 09, features the melted collection by pieke bergmans and peter van der jagt. the large cabinets, shelves and chair are all made from polystyrene foam which has been baked to achieve their form. through the heating process, the foam transforms into strong, rigid pieces of furniture. from up close, you can notice that the edges of the pieces melt into natural seams. there is also a slight gradient of color that follows the natural curves of the material which are a result of being baked.
