jochem de wit: tableware series

this series of tableware pieces by dutch designer jochem de wit takes inspiration from the urban
environment. de wit looked to the forgotten parts of the city for reference, using the chaotic and
random nature of the materials. ‘for me messy urban life isn’t a doomsday scenario but rather
a reason for confidence in unforeseen opportunities and a positive way of life’ de wit told
designboom. the pieces are made from materials which are not necessarily clean or new like
glass, clay and concrete. the result gives the individual designs a feeling of place, evoking the
city streets. de wit also explained that the intention of the project is to not be flawless, since he
believes a scratch on an object is a signal of life, not a blemish.
