designer dodo arslan considers himself a bit of a researcher and his recent exhibition at the
triennale museum in milan gave an overview of his design process and finished pieces.
arslan’s work comes from an extensive analysis of objects, disassembling them
and making models to study a product’s components and materials. he explores shapes,
prisms and spheres and the idea of a frame and structure of a piece, be it a skeleton, weft,
mesh or chassis. arslan believes that a shape does not exist until it meets the material which
enables it to be what it is and he experiments with his forms through a range of materials:
from leather to metal, plexiglass to glass, from steel to carbon, from marble to polyurethane
and from pyrex to pixel. his projects emerge from the combination of mechanical
and anthropogenic items, divided between technology and the hand, working with the belief
that a project emerges while it is being implemented, proceeding through a trial and error approach.

it is only by handling materials that we can truly notice how they behave, how they react to
external stimuli.
