toto design: mosquito bike

german designers tom mudra and hans-tobias schicktanz combined together as toto design to realize
projects like the electric mosquito bike. the vehicle is a lightweight electric bike designed for the urban
environment. the motor is powered by inexpensive lithium batteries that give the bike about a 60 km range
with maximum speed of up to 50 km/h. the bike a has a removable centre pole to make mounting easier for
riders of all ages and ability. the motor and batter are housed in the body and can be covered with a variety
of materials making the bike customizable. because most of the parts are standard bike parts, repairs are
easy and inexpensive. the bike is already in small production and should be available next year.

i'm sorry, but this just doesn't seem well though out? how much travel do they have on that fork, what kind of potholes are you encountering in your city? The frame looks like it's some mutant child of a full suspension mountain bike and a y-foil. How about practical concerns like directional treads, fenders, maybe actually some understanding about a downtube and what it does although I guess with such a monster tube cross section maybe they could get away with it. Also the foot placement would be slicker than anything with a little water, sounds like a good way to cripple somebody

maybe a saddle that's appropriate for short distance urban riding, I mean that thing is just...not to mention the sheer size of the seatpost clamp.

perhaps I'm being harsh but I am just so sick of seeing designers produce these ill conceived bikes that seem to ignore any actual research or knowledge about frame building and mating components to needs.

All very well, but would not be legal in the UK unless it was registered, licensed and insured, also the rider would have to wear a full motorcycle helmet as it would be classified as a motor vehicle.
