bench press, designed by established & sons‘ sebastian wrong and artist richard woods was presented during london design week. occupying the four corners of the V&A‘s entrance dome, the public seating installation is a series of three tier benches reclaimed from the american tulipwood boards used for the established & sons show in milan earlier this year.

the construction references the many tiered cornice work aligned around the central atrium of the V&A, which are situated directly above the bench positions. the work intentionally corrupts the high victoria interior architecture of the surrounding area by misaligning the order of the space.‘ – SW

the jointing details are exposed, displaying the craftsmanship of the 3-meter long benches. richard wood has applied the colorful layers of wood grain print on the end grain, side lengths and full boards of the benches, as well as being sandwiched into the construction of the pieces.

over on the other side of town at their east london studio showroom, established & sons have brought together a selection of pieces from their 2009 collection, all in the theme of black and white. when speaking to them about why they chose this theme, it was said that perhaps it was an homage to michael jackson. however, by showcasing the designs in black and white, the focus becomes more about the pieces themselves with distractions of color.
