yu-hun kim: reading tray

yu-hun kim: reading tray

yu-hun kim is a korean designer based in london, who has created a spill-proof tray for eating and reading.
the tray was created after kim explored the everyday errors people make when multi-tasking. kim designed
three objects to try and solve these issues, including a mug for reading and drinking simultaneously,
a combination knife and fork and this reading tray. made from clear acrylic, the tray is flat on top for
holding food and a drink and has a slot underneath to slip in a book or magazine. the tray can be held in
one hand, allowing the user to read and eat with their free hand. if they do spill or make crumbs, the tray
can simply be wiped off.

You can't:
-turn the pages
-read under the cup mark
And who wants to hold a tray in one hand anyway?
An equilibrist?

not useful at all
oliver   09.30.09
who would ever need this?

so pointless. it's like the designer's created a problem and then designed a totally useless solution.

Waste of time. Stop thinking for the consumer market. Solve a problem. Help the world.

WHY did you do that!?
Alka   10.01.09
Honestly, I like it.

OMG, totally useless, just polluting again and again, you should think a little bit more about what is creating in design... silly product makes me sick

So narrow minded. I think her creative approach is pretty cool. Such thinking will lead to really innovative USEFUL projects in the future, I'm sure.
Tina   10.01.09
kind of like it, big paper, lunch, ive had problems! but yeah then my mum said "you cant turn the pages"..solve that problem and i like it again!!
rory horne   10.01.09
it's clearly a playful piece. look at her site - all her work is eccentric, but really quite tender and well thought through.

there's nothing wrong with a bit of fun, especially when it's nicely realised as a well styled, well made object like this.

snobbery will get you guys nowhere...
tango   10.04.09
I love it!
Hersenlicht   10.05.09
This would be great on a aeroplane. I always have difficulty reading while eating in such a confined space.
