one of the exhibitions held during london design week was design less ordinary.
held at the brick lane gallery, the show was a collection of 30 new works from
11 london based designers who were responding and reconsidering the familiar
through new objects. one of the projects exhibited was helena karelson's contour blinds
which are an interpretation of traditional venetian blinds.

contour blinds were born out of karelson's fascination with light and the relationship
between form and shadow. when slats are in a horizontal position, light filters through
the irregular gap, projecting a tapestry of sunbeams into the interior space.
from the vertical position, the light from behind the window frames blends into a subtle,
warm glow. here, each slat has been carefully designed to leave no post-manufacture waste,
and made from environmentally friendly materials.
