sam baron: bizarre collection for sisley

a fish swimming into a plate

bizarre is a collection of five limited-production ceramic objects designed by sam baron
for sisley, as part of the 'take your time' exhibition at the fabrica features space in lisbon.
the pieces are a re-invention of one of the main portuguese traditions with a contemporary
vision of the old 'savoir-faire'. drawing on forms from nature translated into classic vases
and tableware pieces, bizzare is a futuristic approach to souvenirs inherited from the past.
a series includes hybrid creatures such as a vase hosting a family of swans or a plate
with a fish swimming in it.

the ceramics are made by hand and produced by olfaire in caldas da rainha, portugal.
they will be on show until october 10th, 2009 at the sisley store, rua garrett 112-118, lisboa.

Lousy work. I mean.. what's this?

Companies should open their doors to other (new) designers. This guy (Baron), had already a bunch of design opportunities to show what he's got and he failed every single one of them in order to show some decent work.

No wonder Fabrica lost all the mojo with the loss of Hayon and companies like Vista Alegre keep losing money with designs by Baron.

I agree with mdl; I believe Baron has nothing more to offer.

sad reality.
There is a problem of "no design", giving answer as fast as possible to companies which deserve more than this.
Everything seems permitted.
Too fast, no thought, it's pointless.

design needs a revolution. design needs a new dieter rams or something like that. the world if fed-up of "no-design".

I mean, this is garbage design. It's useless. Pointless. No function. No purpose to exist.

Fabrica is running bad.
The 'students' are only working for him, and not for themselves. They don't develop their own creativity, they make some "Sam Baron's work". It's running like an agence over there not like a residence.
But that's not the point about this cheap work made by S.Baron.
Antonio   10.06.09
So true, I've heard that before.

The students don't have any liberty to think for themselves. It's a shame because Fabric used to be a good place to apply during and after studies, but now it's just rubbish.

They should really kick Baron out of it. I mean, the work created there lately talks for himself. very bad.

I agree that it's nowhere close to being a masterpiece however I happen to like the first one. I don't know if it's the lines on the fish tail that make it more believable, or something else but this piece is actually quite appealing.
