as part of prague designblok, czech design studio qubus made up of maxim velcovsky
and jakub berdych, are presenting 'polotovary', an exhibition of their process work at the
galerie via art.
each factory-made piece begins as a solitary artifact. although the categories of art and design
have become blurred, the notion of multiplication and a series is often an observers only
cognitive sign that distinguishes the free from the applied arts. for this exhibition,
qubus displays found, unrealized forms and models which have become the base for production
along with first prototypes of a product. within the context of the gallery, these objects have not
been multiplied and are preserved in the form of abstract shapes, viewers unable to really
decipher what their original purpose was.
