raw edges - shay alkalay and yael mer: 'wall to wall' for established and sons

'wall to wall' installation

established & sons limited are currently presenting 'wall to wall', an installation created
for the company by shay alkalay and yael mer of raw edges design studio.

'wall to wall' has been made with oiled oak herringbone parquet brick flooring.
alkalay & mer have developed the traditional finish by staining the individual bricks
from a pallet of 15 different colours. by taking an everyday product and twisting
the core element, they have developed a very characteristic mosaic design.

the installation is on display at established and sons limited, london until the 24th november, 2009
as part of the frieze art fair.

this reminds me a lot of a house that was covered in either wallpaper or elle decoration magazine a couple of months ago!
very similar!
as effective?

it's a lot like this apartment:

yes the two projects do remind each other but I would go for established and son version. much nicer to create this super rich result by using common normal bricks!
well done again rawedges, can’t wait to see their next project

or 2 or 3 years ago, someone did a house with recycled wood scraps just like that throughout the entire house, walls and floors... kinda bland raw edges..
jimmy   10.19.09
oo yeah emma agreed, that project is super sweet.

well they both use parquet wooden floor tiles, so they are very very similar!
Personally the Apartment has a greater sensual appeal as it actually has a theory to the colour change rather than just a sporadic burst.

much more inspiring the Tham & Videgard Hansson project.
