until less than a hundred years ago, important articles of daily use such as combs
and buttons were made of horn. it was only during the course of the twentieth century
that bakelite and celluloid presented horn with its first competition; the development
of the first synthetic materials eventuallyrendered this naturally grown difficult to
work with material entirely obsolete. nevertheless there are still some people who
continue to work with this material and thomas petz who inherited his grandfather's
horn manufactory in vienna, is one of them.

austrian designer adam wehsely swiczinsky worked together with thomas petz of
petz hornmanufaktur to create a horn bracelet digital watch and horn vision glasses.
the collaboration was part of the passionswege series that was held during
vienna design week 09.
