paul coudamy's random resurrection for Af83 is a set of custom made furniture based on second hand
objects from e-bay which have been remixed. it is like a game of combinations, where instead
of drawing out exacting forms, design is born from reconfiguring existing pieces. as well as giving
a second life to discarded furniture or transforming your grandmother's table into a new design,
the project aimed to question the shape of conventional furniture. random resurrection mutates
common objects into new ones, while still maintaining their original typologies. the collection
is made up of a meeting table and 10 chairs.

the meeting table is constructed from three e-bay tables which have been assembled into one
piece creating a hybrid object. a heavily ornate central pedestal for the table maintains
two aerial extensions supported by a thin leg. a wood veneered table and blue tray are inserted
into the main stand resulting in a 10 person table.

purchasing a selection of archetypal, cheap wooden chairs, coudamy dismantled them
and recombined them into new arrangements offering new typologies for the chairs.

paul coudamy: table diptere

design | 05.12.10

unlike typical folding / extendible tables which require an external leaf, the two trays of the 'table diptere' hinge on an offset axis in order for the trays to move above the legs.
