samsung young design award 09

the theme of the 3rd samsung young design award, a competition created
by samsung ectronics italy for italian design students,
was
'new energy of living:
sustainable digital solutions that improve the quality of
household life'.

the award ceremony was held on
16th nov at the triennale in milan.
9 works were selected and exhibited, including the three winning entries.


PAD by GMG design, gold award

PAD (small domestic helpers) is a family of digital pets that try to improve the energy consumption...
by monitoring health status of the environment (measuring the heat, air quality, the welfare of plants).


stand off by daniele tamborini, silver award

'stand off' turns off appliances remotely using bluetooth technology.
the heart of the main controller is the accelerometer that detects the position
of the object, a bluetooth signal is sent to the triples related to electrical sockets
and a flashing light (red or blue) indicates its status (on or off).





re-siker by emiliano carbone

for recycling stations - the system of 're-siker' consists of two parts:
the base object that weighs and packs the bags, give each a serial number
- thus certifying the quality of the service,
and the reader that informs the user about recyclable items and provide
information on their composition and
employment market.



intelligent organizer by stefano esposito, francesco antonio, massimiliano elefante, ottavio ottaviano and antonio iorto

a device to provide a way to save energy by solving the problem of electric line over-charging



DNA by giovanni cerra

a floating unit to provide affordable and continuous energy generation form the sun and wind




recycle by vincenzo barbata, dario mascolo, giulliano addati, marco sapia, marco ricciardi

an exercise bike which produces energy



light by alessandro domeneghini

luminescent and florescent illumination without the use of electricity



e- plant by marco paolucci, mariano viola, massimo perna, giannarco incarnato


the metaphor of a plant to make consumption information easy and non-intrusive



self control by enrico fratoli, gilberto carnietti, michele gaita and giulla scardellato

a device to improve perception and knowledge of energy consumption in the house
