tal gur: holy poly chair

the holy poly chair

the holy poly chair designed by tal gur, is comprised of three very different layers.
the inner structure is a skeleton of a ready-made common plastic chair, which has a surrounded
by a cardboard covering to create volume and mass. it is then finished with a blue polyurea skin.

it's easy to be rude...
just because it's not as cool as an ipod doesn't mean it is poor quality. i'dd like to sit and see how it feels. the technology itself could be something to look at.
alex   11.19.09
Personally I quite like this project. But like john c. I am also interested to know why designboom censors comments. Surely that is the whole point of a blog?
ladytron   11.19.09
Its true that many people read dezeen because it has a great comments policy. Some of them are stupid and thoughtless, but looked at as a whole I would say they expand a viewers insight into a particular project. And dare I say it, sometimes the stupid and thoughtless ones are the most insightful. I prefer the balance of projects on designboom to dezeen, but feel that they are losing out on a valuable facet of feedback.
julian mayor   11.19.09
In my opinion I think that all comments on Dezeen are fake and posted by Dezeen themselves.
Nicholas   11.19.09
now john c's comment has been censored too?! With no comment from designboom as to their standpoint on comments (any opinion as long as its the 'right' one?). I feel like a naughty schoolchild, suppose I'd better go and sit in a corner with my dunce cap and 'think about my actions' for a while...
ladytron   11.19.09
Nicholas, I have no idea if that is true, but does it make the comments any less valid?
julian mayor   11.19.09
And you keep censoring!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! Designboom you suck!
reilly   11.19.09
cool! this makes.... 3 comments from me CENSORED! You guys don't exist. What is this? 1950s China?

Why do you even bother to put a comment are here? No one can't comment!
john c.   11.19.09
yes, we DO sensor comments.
I don't know if dezeen has fake comments,
but we have some attacks of negative comments -
10 or more in half an hour. yes, unfortunately it is true,
the blogsphere is manipulated by some people.
we have deleted the comments below as we feel they do
not contribute to a cultural discussion.

what a piece of sh......!!!
john c. 11.18.09

holy sh** that is. My god why why why?
Steve Sizou 11.18.09

what for?
oliver 11.18.09

why is this featured?
iomonk 11.18.09

Warning: I sat in this chair once and it instantly made me sterile and my wife left me.
I think this actually belongs on Regretsy
Andy F. 11.18.09

looking at this it makes me want to puke and eat everything back again.
this is the most boring, useless, lame, disgusting and worst work I've ever seen

I used to be a regular reader of designboom since 2005, but from now on... no more!

You have no values. You have no respect for your readers. You have no respect for opinions. I feel ashamed that an industrial designer blog with such visibility has people censoring comments.
john c.   11.19.09
ridhika whats your problem? Yes, the chair is ugly! Yes, why is this featured here? Yes, what for? Yes, why?

Reading what you've read here you are DEFINITELY NOT an industrial designer. If you can't read a negative comment about someone else's work, why do even bother to work for Designboom? You shouldn't be doing this for living.

Wake up for the world. People have opinions. Good or bad are opinions. You should let people talk!

And since you are posting here the comments that were deleted, why don't you post the last one from John C. that was censored. I read it myself and it had NOTHING wrong about it.

This is sad.
Amanda   11.19.09
lame attitude designboom....
pedro   11.19.09
there was no other comment that was censored. I have published all that was there.
ridhika /designboom   11.19.09
Yes it was deleted. I've read it. It was a comment where he was talking about Dezeen and other design blogs, comparing them to Designboom.
Amanda   11.19.09
amanda, there has been no other comments. if you would
like to send us your email we can continue this discussion
on the topic.
ridhika /designboom   11.19.09
Oh my God! I'm saying that that was ANOTHER comment. John C. confirmed it, and even ladytron commented that comment!

Am I on the twilight zone? Even Nicholas and julian mayor posted comments regarding the comment I'm talking about and that was censored by designboom.

I can't believe what I'm reading!!!
Amanda   11.19.09
there actually was one other comment but its academic now... Personally found the chair pretty interesting, kind of like gricic chaos meets max lamb poly with a craft based aesthetic. and at the risk of disagreeing with some quite angry people(!), to me it looks carefully made and probably quite comfortable.
julian mayor   11.19.09
we have the feeling that -
Amanda, Nicholas and julian mayor and John C. and ladytron and pedro, and reilly and alex, ...
might not be more than 1-3 different people.
we will close the comment area now as this does not make sense and verbal rudeness
and people pretending to be someone else' is boring.

we have always kept critical comments, as long as they were constructive.
there is nothing wrong with being critical if done correctly it can start a great conversation.
... don’t make things personal, questioning someones intelligence will mean anything else you say,
will not be read, because your comment will end up in the trash.
we do not feel it is nice to attack the designer, his work and us, showing it to you.
