the original sound track

designer ricardo seola created this educational music toy for children, that features a train that literally
plays the track. the toy's track is designed with small bumps on it to pluck the metal keys on the train.
the design borrows from the simple mechanics of wind-up music boxes and implements it in a whole
new way. because the track is divided into sections, children can rearrange them to change the song in
new ways. the toy would feature multiple track featuring different songs that could also be combined
to form even more musical possibilities.

Really nice concept!!! you actually enhanced something so old as the music box giving new opportunities to play and learn music..
One thing only: You should have made the length of teeth from the comb in different sizes... from that rendering you would always get the same note.

superb work!

Yes, Koko, really good point. But, you can get diferent notes from same comb sizes by increasing the tickness behind them. Anyway, by changing the sizes I'd made it clear. Thanks!

Really nice, love the concept and the renderings. But would the straight wheels be able to work on a curved track like that? hhhmmm

Would be really nice if you had a version where the track had holes into which you could put pins to generate your own music.
Otherwise, utterly lovely idea.

Brilliant idea. I hope it gets into production. With some development it could help children learn some principals of music making intuitively. Here's some thoughts...
How about a music scale painted on the track and each of 7 notes could be one of the colours of the rainbow and repeated at the octave.
Having to buy more tracks to get more songs is not great so I think Allix's idea of tracks with holes into which the child can insert pins/pegs to create songs would make it much better. Then include a booklet showing the score for a whole range of songs of increasing complexity.
Add a variable speed control to the train so the song tempo can be altered.
Also, the design aesthetic is rather stark and could be more cute and rounded and chunkier and charming etc.

great concept.
but you might want to give the dresden dolls a credit for using coin-operated boy throughout.
